On February 10 the Orthodox Church pays the tribute to the memory of Ephraim the Syrian, a famous preacher and theologian. This day is unofficially called «the Day of Miracles» as according to the apocrypha any “never-before-seen wonder” may happen to you.  In folklore Ephraim has a treasure trove of nicknames such as a wind-blower, a soothsayer, etc.

1635 —the French Academy – the foremost scientific society in the sphere of the French language and literature was established.

1810 — solemn inauguration of the Odessa Opera House took place.

1942 — the first “golden disk” award was conferred to Glen Miller, a great jazz musician, composer and conductor, for his famous composition “Chattanooga Choo Choo”.

1992 — “Basic Instinct” hit the silver screens of the USA.
